Kong: Skull Island Review - 6 Ups & 5 Downs

2. There Are Interesting Nods To The MonsterVerse

Kong is the second entry into Warner Bros' MonsterVerse, which will release Godzilla: King of the Monsters in 2019 followed by Godzilla vs. Kong in 2020, and to its credit, it does manage to nod towards further adventures without feeling like it exists solely to sell those movies.

Aside from a few scattered references to the MUTOs from Godzilla, Kong remains a self-contained story until its post-credits scene, which hints at the battle awaiting Kong as well as the potential for other iconic Toho creatures to join the mix in the future.

Considering how aggressively superhero movies advertise the next movie at the end of the current one, it's refreshing that Kong didn't go overboard with the overzealous hype.
