Kong: Skull Island Review - 6 Ups & 5 Downs

1. It Knows Exactly What It Is (And Delivers Accordingly)

And finally, though Kong has a ton of problems and is far from a great movie, it is at least fully aware of its B-movie origins and largely gives itself over to that.

There are mood and tone issues, yes, but if you come to see this movie hoping to witness a giant ape beat the s*** out of some other giant monsters, then you'll probably be satisfied to that end.

It also doesn't get over-indulgent with the run-time, clocking in at "only" 118 minutes, which these days is rather on the slender side for blockbuster fare. It gets in, doesn't make you wait long for Kong, gets out, and won't eat up a massive chunk of your day. Sometimes that's enough.
