Kristen Stewart is Joan Jett in THE RUNAWAYS!!!

Is the publicity shy TWILIGHT star Kristen Stewart really cool enough to play rocker chick Joan Jett in a biopic of the 70's all girl band The Runaways? Joan Jett herself must think so. She is executive producing the biopic of the band which Stewart has just attached herself too. Brought together in late 1975, The Runaways included guitarists Jett and Lita Ford, drummer Sandy West, singer-keyboardist Cherie Currie and bassist Jackie Fox whose act of teenage girls performing in leather and lace became so much more than a novelty gimmick, as they produced influential track after track. Their four year run included the hits "Cherry Bomb" and "Queens of Noise"...

The Hollywood Reporter say music video director Floria Sigismondi wrote the screenplay and is directing the movie, simply titled THE RUNAWAYS. You can see her work in the music videos for Marilyn Manson's"Tourniquet" and "The Beautiful People".

She also did Christina Aguilera's"Fighter".

The film will revolve around Jett and Currie and follow them from the band's meteoric rise as teenagers to their dissolution and disillusionment. Jett would later form the group the Blackhearts and would produce the extremely successful song "I Love Rock and Roll".

Great band to make a biopic of. Cameron Crowe has already shown us with ALMOST FAMOUS that this was a great time in music history to tell stories on the big screen from but Kristen Stewart still feels very young on screen for me, I'm not sure she's mature enough as an actress to take this big leap. Hope she proves me wrong.
