4. Col. Jack O'Neil - Stargate
Stargate is one of those movies that seemed cool back in the day, but has since aged rather poorly. Special effects aside it has no beating heart, and no amount of laser blasts can cover that up. Even the normally reliable Russell cant bring any life to his role, who is less a human being than a sentient buzz cut. Hes a muscle-bound action figure with no character traits or personality; hes only there to shoot guns and be the straight man to James Spaders tech nerd. His character has a tragic backstory where his son accidentally shot himself with one of ONeils guns, but if the character is feeling any pain from this incident you wouldnt know it from Russells performance. He just stands around grimacing a lot, smoking cigarettes or grunting exposition. It ranks as one of his most dull performances, which is probably why the character was given a sense of humour injection for the TV series.
