Quote Of The Night: "It's going to be an exciting night. Anything can happen, so many different possibilities. Possibility number one: 12 Years a Slave wins best picture. Possibility number two: You're all racists." It has been a few weeks since she hosted, and now that some time has gone by, I think it's safe to say that her second hosting stint was very "middle-of-the-pack." She was a definite improvement over most of the hosts from recent years, but Ellen DeGeneres is not edgy enough to really stick out overall. She had some memorable moments, of course, but I wonder if they've had much staying power. People still chuckle over John Travolta screwing up Idina Menzel's name, but does anyone still care about Ellen's selfie that broke Twitter? That's the problem with trying to create an internet meme, they only last so long. Plus, what's been a problem with Ellen's hosting stints has been the fact that she's allowed the ceremonies to go on for way too long. While the increasingly unnecessary video montages definitely slowed this year's ceremony down, Ellen trying to work the crowd with her pizza bit was also part of the reason why the show went longer than 3 hours and 30 minutes. Ellen was loose and relaxed, but almost too loose. By the end, it was hard not to keep from falling asleep.
