Quote Of The Night: "Anyone who's ever worked with Meryl Streep always says the same thing: can that woman act! And what's with all the Hitler memorabilia?" When I saw the ceremony at the time, I remember thinking Martin and Baldwin were a little flat when they hosted in 2010, but now that it's been four years and we've had so many mediocre hosts since then, they're starting to look a lot better by comparison. Having recently re-watched their opening monologue, I was surprised that it was much funnier than I remembered. Martin and Baldwin actually made for a pretty solid team. They didn't always have the funniest jokes, but they tried their best to sell them. Plus, unlike Hathaway and Franco, they actually seemed to enjoy each other's presence. This was the Oscar's first attempt to have co-hosts in over two decades. Steve Martin had hosted twice before, meanwhile Baldwin had zero hosting experience at the time. Steve Martin is nowhere near the comedian he used to be, but he at least had some bite left in him (unlike Billy Crystal two years later). Martin and Baldwin did a fantastic job of trading barbs with each other, while never being afraid to make light of themselves in the process. It was good, clean fun. Unfortunately, I don't think they were sharp enough to get another chance to host together.
