Assuming that we've never seen a movie before, Wright attempts to drop our jaws with the lacklustre revelation that Collins is in fact, Alex. But for those of us who assumed the film would follow a sense of logic rather than cheaply retconning its own previous scenes, the more effective twist is that Alex was never stabbed at all and instead became a cold-blooded serial killer.

Fine, whatever. Except...how did she accomplish that, precisely?

We're told in one of the film's more darkly comedic one-liners that "London is a bad place," but that doesn't mean the police would take a string of missing persons cases with a grain of salt. Especially when Terrence Stamp makes no small issue of the fact that "everybody knew Sandie."

Not only does that make it implausible that she so frequently gets away with lying about her name, but it also means that people would notice when every one of her clients suddenly went missing. Jack's reputation as a pimp would go down the drain, and rumours would start to spread that would almost definitely make their way back to the already well-informed vice squad.

Instead, we're meant to believe this tiny young woman was murdering victims left and right, discreetly disposing of the bodies, and evading any police inquiry until a bunch of time ghosts blew the lid off her perfect crimes.

And speaking of time ghosts...
