Hey, remember that scene where Ellie almost stabs Hurricane Jocasta in the eye? Because apparently, the multiple witnesses at the library all forgot about it pretty promptly since it never comes up again.

The problem isn't so much that Ellie doesn't get arrested for this, but rather how socially accepted she is at the end. We can possibly accept that John convinced Jocasta not to press charges, but this film's annoyingly stereotypical cast of schoolyard bullies would almost certainly keep this story alive for the rest of their college careers.

Everybody's been laughing at Ellie since day one, making fun of her mother's suicide and implying that Ellie must be crazy, too. Leading up to the near-stabbing, she's been having what any normal observer would describe as a total psychotic breakdown in several very public places. Even if she didn't suffer any legal ramifications for the scissor incident, it's a little scary that the school's kept her on instead of getting her the serious help that any sane observer would think she needs.

Then again, maybe this was meant to be a situation where Jocasta's partners in crime secretly resented her all along, since they're shown without Jocasta at the end. Maybe they just thought Ellie was being brave and standing up for herself.

So brave.
