The Last Of Us Movie: 12 Reasons An Adaptation Is A Horrible Idea

10. Tension

Tension is an incredibly important element of The Last of Us. It's a survival action game that relies on tension to tell its story. You never know which characters are going to survive, how many clickers are going to be just around the corner, or when your ammo is going to run out just when you need it most. This palpable tension radiates from both the cinematics and the gameplay. What will happen to the crucial feeling of tension in a film if we already know the destination, the fates of the characters, and the most impactful scenes? Unless the creators of the film completely alter the sequence and outcome of events, or create an entirely new storyline, there is a major issue here. Fans of the game will likely complain about whatever course is taken. If they stay true to the events portrayed in The Last of Us, then those tense moments will feel rehashed and less powerful. If they change outcomes, fans will complain that they deviated too far from the story. It is a no-win situation for the filmmakers and the better option is to let the amazing game stand on its own merits without potentially damaging its legacy with a film.
