The Last Of Us Movie: 15 Key Scenes We Need To See
5. The Hospital
Here is one of the most powerful points in the game for a number of different reasons. First and foremost, the audience sees how flawed Joel's character can be when he cares for something. Ellie became not only his daughter, but his main form of emotional stability after he already lost so many people he put his faith into. Losing her for the greater good simply wasn't an option in his eyes. This is a moral dilemma that the viewer will have to determine is acceptable for Joel to act on or not regardless of how likeable he is. The movie needs to not only capture the nature of Joel's actions, but also the fact that he took out dozens of Firefly members along the way to preventing Ellie's surgery. Instead of potentially saving millions of lives and ending the zombie epidemic, Joel took it upon himself to both mercilessly end more lives and prevent a cure from being found to save the masses. As time will tell, Ellie also has her doubts about Joel's actions in something that can be described as a selfish move with dire consequences. Even though Joel was apparently in the wrong for what he did, the game still did a great job of making viewers feel his pain and see where he was coming from. This is something that needs to be done exceptionally well in the movie to protect the characters' integrity.
Hey, I'm Brandon. I love writing and reading and I study journalism, communication studies and business at the University of Rhode Island. My main passions are sports, music, TV, movies and a lot of other things that would take me way too long to write. WhatCulture is a great place for me to express myself so I'm looking to write as much as I can. Thanks for reading my work.
