The Last Of Us Movie: 15 Key Scenes We Need To See
3. Ellie Protecting Joel
If the film gives away the fact that Joel was still alive after being stabbed through the abdomen by a loose piece of shrapnel early on, this part of the film will be a complete waste of time. Having the gnawing notion that Joel could very well be dead in a ditch somewhere is what made this part of the game as important and memorable as it was. Introducing David as an actual person needs to be addressed as well. Fans of the game had the luxury of seeing how manipulative David could be here and people watching the movie need to see this too. Instead of giving David a barbaric thirst for blood like the rest of his cohorts, showing he was both trusting enough of Ellie to give her his rifle and in need of her help for food fleshed him out well enough to provide actual substance. This is what set him apart from any other generic video game villain, and he will have to be shown as such in the movie to make the eventual scene when Ellie bashes his head in all the more hard-hitting. Joel being seen as vulnerable as he was put value into this scene as well. Seeing Ellie wrap blankets around his pale and bloody body put forth that he was in horrible condition and in desperate need of any medicine he could get.
Hey, I'm Brandon. I love writing and reading and I study journalism, communication studies and business at the University of Rhode Island. My main passions are sports, music, TV, movies and a lot of other things that would take me way too long to write. WhatCulture is a great place for me to express myself so I'm looking to write as much as I can. Thanks for reading my work.
