The Last Of Us Movie: 15 Key Scenes We Need To See
2. David's Plans For Ellie
Here is another one that will be best if the other scenes around it do a good job of foreshadowing. When game of cat and mouse between David and Ellie is going on there is no mention of rape or cannibalism. This information comes from Joel's torture of David's fellow invaders where one of them says Ellie will be David's "new toy," and when Ellie sees human limbs being hacked off while she is caged in their compound. The fact that no one comes out and says "David plans on raping Ellie and feeding her to the rest of us" shows that the game's creators at Naughty Dog expected a certain level of intelligence from the audience to not bash it over people's heads. If the filmmakers don't force feed information or hold back on any of the key details it can be a good scene. The big obstacle here would be putting the whole grown-man-trying-to-rape-a-14-year-old plotline to film. Rape isn't exactly a subtle subject and it can be very tough to portray tastefully even with an ending as satisfying as Ellie hacking David's head to pieces. Regardless, everybody can't be satisfied so there is no use trying to do so.
Hey, I'm Brandon. I love writing and reading and I study journalism, communication studies and business at the University of Rhode Island. My main passions are sports, music, TV, movies and a lot of other things that would take me way too long to write. WhatCulture is a great place for me to express myself so I'm looking to write as much as I can. Thanks for reading my work.
