Latino Review tell us not to panic. Other directors meet for CONAN

On Thursday, we heard that Brett Ratner had been offered the chance to direct the new CONAN reboot over at Nu Image but today Latino Review offer us some light at the end of the tunnel and a glimmer of hope that he may not end up with the gig. The site tell us that Ratner has indeed met with the producers behind the film but has not yet been selected to direct. The process is still on-going and they have met and are still to meet several other directors, the names of which they have also managed to get their hands on...

Neil Marshall (THE DESCENT, DOG SOLDIERS, DOOMSDAY)

We have heard Marshall was interested in this property before, his movies certainly have the feeling of a 80's mentality about them. I wouldn't mind seeing this guy get the chance to do this actually.

James McTeigue (V FOR VENDETTA, upcoming NINJA ASSASSIN)

The pet prodigy of The Wachowski's, McTeigue has less experience than some of the names on the list and I honestly don't believe he has yet directed a movie he hasn't been nurtured through but you can't deny his great eye for visuals. Not sure about his structure though, but he has only directed one movie.

The Strause Brothers (ALIEN VS. PREDATOR: REQUIEM)

I actually don't want this movie to go STV, but thanks anyway.

Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor (CRANK, upcoming GAME and CRANK 2)

Likely to be working on JONAH HEX next, probably too busy to work on this. At least that's what I hope because I love the idea of these two no holds barred risk takers working on HEX. I wouldn't mind seeing their CONAN but HEX comes first please. The site also claim they have met Robert Rodriguez for the film, something we are already well aware of and we believe he turned them down a while ago. The guy they have yet to meet is a very exciting prospect though, the name of Spaniard Juan Carlos Fresnadillo who burst onto the Hollywood scene with the quite brilliant 28 WEEKS LATER last year. I would love to see them take a risk and give it to this guy. His 28 WEEKS LATER was smartly directed, way better than anything Danny Boyle did with the original and showed early signs of a really talented helmer. All the names have "action" in common, in a big way. A lot of them only have a few movies on their CV, it seems to me they are looking for a Zack Snyder type. I would personally hire Neil Marshall because I think he is the most talented and secure director to work on this genre (I don't like DOOMSDAY but at least it was faithful to the film's genre) - but I do like the idea of giving Fresnadillo free reign on the film. But at this point, as long as it's not Ratner or The Brothers Strause then I'm happy.
