Le Mans '66 Review: 7 Ups & 3 Downs

6. Its Old-Fashioned, Crowd-Pleasing Tone

As mentioned, Le Mans '66 is a pitch-perfect example of a broad-skewing Hollywood movie done right: it knows what slick, crowd-pleasing beats to hit and nails them with an aggressive aplomb.

With a winning mix of high-octane thrills, sharp character work and welcome dashes of humour, it adds up to a film that tows the tonal line perfectly, evoking a distinctly old-school feel which should play well across age demographics.

It's ultimately a movie about manly men trying to beat each other on the track by any means necessary, with sensibly sparing use of CGI and a casual, laid-back pace. Basically, dads everywhere are going to love it.

Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes). General video game, TV and film nut. Occasional sports fan. Full time loon.
