Lee Pace has been cast as the villain in Marvel Studios Guardians of the Galaxy movie. No word yet on the villains identity though some have speculated that Pace will play The Controller, Thanos henchman, if not Thanos himself. With the announcement yesterday that Ophelia Lovibond could be playing Carina, The Collectors daughter, Paces role might even be Michael Korvac, whose character was in a relationship with Carina, which means Marvel might develop The Avengers classic storyline The Korvac Saga into a movie. Pace was originally up for the part of Star Lord which eventually went to Chris Pratt, though it seems he made an impression on director James Gunn and Marvel as they kept him involved in the project for a different major role.
Pace is best known for his roles as Garett in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 2 and Thranduil the Elven King (Legolas father) in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Pace joins Chris Pratt as Peter Quill aka Star Lord, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Michael Rooker as Yondu, and Ophelia Lovibond possibly as Carina, The Collectors daughter. Still to be cast are the Guardians Rocket Raccoon and Groot. Shooting in June at Shepperton, Guardians of the Galaxy is scheduled for release on August 1 2014. source -
