LEGO Batman Movie: 75 Easter Eggs & References You Need To See

3. Batman Beyond

There are a couple of references to excellent animation Batman Beyond, not least in the appearance of Terry McGinnis' suit hanging in Batman's closet.

McGinnis' arch-nemesis Blight appears as one of the Joker's Rogues, and Barbara Gordon becoming Commissioner is from the show too.

2. The Hall Of Mirrors Fight

During the final climactic battle between Joker and Batman, there's a sequence set within a hall of mirrors. That's definitely a call-back to a similar scene in Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns.

It's also possibly another homage to Robert Clouse, who directed Gymkata (clearly the film-makers were a massive fan), and who famously had a hall of mirrors scene in Enter The Dragon.

1. "I've Been Doing This For 78 Years"

At one point, Batman mentions that he's been "doing this for 78 years" as a reference to the fact that Batman's first appearance came in 1939 in Detective Comics.

Let's just hope the rest of his future is as lovingly crafted as this delightful little film.
