Lightyear Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs

4. Sox Steals The Show

Lightyear Sox
Pixar

As is often the case with Pixar movies, the adorable mascot character ends up stealing the show in Lightyear - in this case Buzz's robotic cat companion Sox (Peter Sohn).

Voiced with a delightfully deadpan tone by Peter Sohn - who directed Pixar's The Good Dinosaur and is helming next year's Elemental - Sox makes for an hilarious foil to Buzz and his comrades, stealing most every scene he's in with his quirky, regularly unexpected hijinks.

Though Sox's mere existence creates a bit of a Toy Story plot hole - because why wouldn't Andy own a Sox toy too, right? - his inclusion is nevertheless worth it because he brings the charm and personality that so much of the movie is otherwise lacking.

Given that character's immense popularity in early reviews, don't be shocked if we get some Disney+ shorts featuring Sox in the near-future. One can only hope so.
