Logan Lucky Review: 6 Ups & 3 Downs

3. It's Surprisingly Affecting

Probably the most unexpected thing about the entire movie is its subtle yet effective emotional component. Numerous scenes explore Jimmy Logan's (Channing Tatum) relationship with his young daughter, Sadie, and there's a third-act pay-off to these scenes that sneaks up on viewers.

It certainly doesn't hurt that young actress Farrah Mackenzie is absolutely fantastic in the role of Sadie and has terrific chemistry with Tatum, while Soderbergh chooses to under-play the scene in question, rather than go the sappy and saccharine route.

Considering this is at its core a hillbilly heist movie, you'd be forgiven for being shocked at the film having any sort of emotional component whatsoever, let alone possibly wringing a tear or two from you.
