Logan Review: 9 Ups & 2 Downs

2. The Tone Is Balanced Incredibly Well

Logan Trailer
20th Century Fox

There was a lot of hand-wringing pre-release that Logan could be yet another movie that promises one thing in its trailers and serves up something totally different in reality.

Thankfully, the trailers do indeed sell a style and tone wholly indicative of the final product. This is a bleak film but it's far from self-consciously "grimdark", reveling in the humanity of its characters and finding welcome light in bursts of dry humour.

Basically, both the MCU and the DCEU could look at this film to see how to handle seriousness and comedy, because it does a top-tier job at juggling them both, even with the added visceral baggage of ultra-violence.

Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes). General video game, TV and film nut. Occasional sports fan. Full time loon.
