Logan Review: 9 Ups & 2 Downs
4. The Pacing Is Near-Perfect
Many comic book fans are fed up of the rather over-indulgent run-times of most superhero movies these days: the MCU and DCEU are both guilty of producing films that needlessly creep close to the 2.5-hour mark, but Logan is a rare superhero movie that actually earns its epic length.
Clocking in at 137 minutes, Logan honestly could've been a little longer without a problem. Mangold and Oscar-nominated editor Michael McCusker do a fantastic job with the film's pacing, and it sure as Hell helps that the lengthy dialogue-driven scenes are incredibly involving and not merely a means to get to the next shootout or stab-a-thon.
The action then feels earned, and once a set-piece is done with, you'll probably be glad for the breather to soak things in.
Mangold really lets character beats and action alike breathe, and the film is all the better for it, considering how many superhero movies end up feeling overly bloated or rushed.
