Logan Reviews: 11 Early Critical Reactions

3. The Final Showdown Is A Little Weak

"The urge to serve up a stakes-raising big bad results in an unsatisfying reveal that externalises and personifies Logan's beneath-the-surface turmoil in an obvious and hoary way...The final confrontation is a little unfocused in comparison with the taut set-pieces that come earlier in the film." - Empire
"The beat-em-up finale is frustratingly illogical, offering nothing we haven't already seen." - Time Out

Easily the biggest worry fans had about Logan was that it would blow all of its promise in a wonky third act, and while most critics agree it doesn't do that, there is a common feeling that the final confrontation isn't quite as water-tight as what preceded it.

It's worth saying at this point that several reviewers made a point of comparing the final battle favourably to The Wolverine's widely-mocked robot samurai showdown, but still felt that it was more conventional than most of the preceding movie.

Thankfully critics have mostly been careful to avoid spoilers, so what the nature of this fight actually is remains to be seen.
