Logan Reviews: 11 Early Critical Reactions

4. The Visuals Are Terrific

"We get imagery and vistas reminiscent of iconic shots from the best John Ford films...Logan is the most beautifully rendered film in the X-Men franchise, and the most visually unique of the bunch. Within the genre overall, it stands out in this regard as well, with only a very few films comparing (the Dark Knight trilogy and Watchmen come instantly to mind)." - Forbes
"[It] feels more like a wake than a party. The colours are muted, all rust-red and glowering grey." - Time Out

As anyone who's seen the trailers should have been able to guess, indeed, this is a beautiful-looking movie and most critics praised Logan for doing a great job differentiating itself from almost every single other superhero movie.

Stylistic comparisons stretched from Mad Max: Fury Road to No Country for Old Men and the recent Hell or High Water, which through the prism of the superhero genre is quite an interesting series of touchstones indeed.

The bleak western feel shouldn't be that surprising, of course, considering that James Mangold directed the fantastic 3:10 to Yuma remake.
