Long Shot Review: 6 Ups & 2 Downs

2. It's Sweet & Full Of Heart

As is also a staple for Rogen and Levine, this movie is far more heartfelt and affecting than it really needed to be in order to succeed.

Long Shot could've easily been a broader rom-com that hit the basic beats without much depth and still performed well enough with critics, but by approaching Fred and Charlotte's relationship with a greater sense of humanity, the end result is so much more rewarding.

Satire aside, the pair are presented like actual human beings rather than cartoons, and there's a genuine sweetness to their dynamic that's missing in so many similar movies.

But the sentiment also feels earned and never comes across as overly syrupy or manipulative, which is a huge credit to both the central performances and the deft writing.
