Lord Of The Rings: 10 Best Scenes NOT From The Books
6. Boromir Trains The Hobbits - The Fellowship Of The Ring
Trained in combat from a young age, Boromir became the mightiest general in Gondor, and a respected warrior across the land. Boromir is utterly devoted to his people and will do anything he can to protect them.
Sadly, Sauron preyed on Boromir's patriotism to convince him The One Ring was the only means to protect his people, urging the Gondorian soldier to steal the enchanted artefact from Frodo. Because the novel describes Boromir as stoic and stern, it would've easy to depict him in the film as an easily corruptible man.
Thankfully, Peter Jackson showed a more lighthearted side of Boromir by incorporating a scene of him playing with the Hobbits and teaching how to fend for themselves.
When Gandalf supposedly dies, Aragorn orders the fellowship to march on while Boromir begs for a moment to grieve, showcasing his compassion for his lost companion.
Little moments like this add less than a minute to the run-time but humanise Boromir immensely. This makes viewers more sympathetic when he is corrupted by the Ring because we understand he's a genuinely pure person who was twisted by Sauron's dark magic.
