Lord Of The Rings & The Hobbit: Every Major Death RANKED
15. Great Goblin - An Unexpected Journey
The battle in Goblin Town was a highlight of the first Hobbit movie, as it was full of dread and character. Alongside this came an engrossing portrayal of the Great Goblin, sadly his death didn't come across as all too exciting. He is dispatched with such ease at the hands of Gandalf that the villain is stripped of any threat.
The film itself seems even to understand how impact less this sequence is, as even the Great Goblin makes a joke at his own expense upon his death. Asking Gandalf "What will he do now?" only to be answered by a swift poke to the eye and a slice to his stomach before muttering "That'll do it" and finally having his throat cut.
Using comedy to take care of this epic character's death isn't necessarily a bad choice. Still, it does, unfortunately, mean that in the scale of significant departures from the series it rings hollow compared to the more emotional or dramatic deaths.
