Lucio Fulci: His 10 Best Films

8. One On Top Of The Other (1969)

on top of01.02.2013 One On Top Of The Other aka Una Sull'Altra aka Perversion Story (my personal favourite title) marks Fulci's first footsteps into the Giallo genre. It was filmed in California and boasts a cast of some of European cinema's finest stars. It also boasts a seriously groovy score from Riz Ortolani. Apparently inspired by Hitchcock's Vertigo, Fulci is unable to match the achievements of Mario Bava or Dario Argento in the annals of Italian Gialli but he nonetheless churned out an entertaining little thriller about infidelity, blackmail, jealousy and duplicity. The plot, like most Giallo films, is too complex to involve you in right now or we would be here until the cows come home, but it is standard Giallo fare. A very different film to which Fulci is famous for, One On Top Of The Other is an enjoyable but minor entry into the Giallo genre.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
