Luke Ending The Jedi: 10 Things It Could Mean For Star Wars VIII
7. Snoke Cannot Be Defeated With The Force
Luke's decision to wind up the Jedi says a lot about the threat he's facing in the Star Wars sequel trilogy.
It raises the stakes by confirming to us that the threat posed by Supreme Leader Snoke and his First Order is not one that can be quelled by the Force as we know it.
This makes a world of sense since Snoke is using Kylo Ren - who embodies light and darkness as a defected Jedi - as his pawn. Skywalker is basically fighting fire with fire.
There's a credible fan theory doing the rounds which claims the Supreme Leader is a Force parasite, an ancient being who survives indefinitely by jumping from body to body.
Should he be successful in jumping into Ren's body, the villain would have access to powers which fall on both sides of the Force spectrum, putting Luke and his friends at a clear disadvantage if they limit themselves to just the light.
Having Luke look beyond the ways of the Force for the power to defeat his latest adversary is a subtle way of upping the ante ahead of Episode VIII, positioning Snoke as a greater threat than the Emperor ever was.
