4. Things Are About To Get More Political
Star Wars has always included light social commentary, but rarely anything more sophisticated than the obvious parallels between Nazi Germany and the Empire.
That, however, could be about to change following Luke's disbanding of the Jedi Order, a move which could be interpreted as a damning indictment of religious zeal and dogmatic institutions.
Having a secular government system supported by religiously-bound peacekeepers is a proven recipe for disaster - their Lightsaber-packing presence alone is usually enough to escalate a situation to the point of aggressive negotiations.
Then there are the Jedi principals, such as the rejection of love and longing, which are traditionally instilled during childhood.
Such concepts feel outdated in the current political climate and the filmmakers - and Skywalker, for that matter - appear to have taken that on board.
