Luke Ending The Jedi: 10 Things It Could Mean For Star Wars VIII
3. The Sith Will Not Be Returning
If Luke is scrapping the Jedi in favour of a new order and Snoke's interest in Kylo Ren is rooted in the youngster's ability to harness both sides of the Force, they could be heading into battle on an equal footing.
Episode VIII is not setting up the traditional good versus evil, Jedi against Sith conflict we're accustomed to - the two opposing forces will have access to abilities from both sides of the Force.
It would appear Snoke reached the same conclusion as Luke long before Skywalker, learning that putting all of one's eggs into the Dark Side's basket is restrictive.
Drawing a battle line between the Jedi and the Sith is also a rigid way of thinking that only perpetuates conflict, but once Episode IX brings us to the trilogy's endgame, the potential to unify all Force users under one banner will be there.
The Jedi took down the Sith once... just about, but given that Snoke respects both sides of the Force, don't expect the Knights of Ren to go full Sith, just as Luke's new order won't be pure Jedi.
Nobody wants to see Luke turn to the Dark Side or throw away everything he's fought for, but make no mistake, The Last Jedi will find the character deconstructed and remoulded for a very different Star Wars universe.
