Despite its standing as a loud and relentless action movie that refuses to say die, many critics found Mad Max: Fury Road to be surprisingly artful. Some compared it to that of a silent movie, whilst others found the details, imagery and world-building to be on the beautiful side. Not at all what you'd expect from a blockbuster with "Mad Max" in its title. A lot of the praise directed at the movie seems to address the way in which Miller has crafted his apocalyptic world; small touches here and there that hint at much larger ideas.
