Mad Max: Fury Road - 20 Easter Eggs, In-Jokes & References

The Thunderdome and Barter Town might be elsewhere on Miller's dystopian map, but there are definitely spiritual similarities to the Citadel. As with the rest of the film, the Citadel is just an improved version - bigger, bolder and madder - of its predecessor.

But there's also a more tangible link between the two: when the wives' vault prison is revealed, its dome shape harks back to the Thunderdome itself. There's also a feeling of Jedediah's cave in the same film in the way the vault is decked out.

It's definitely the close, aviary-like bars and the shape of the roof that seem most reminiscent of the threequel, though.
