Mad Max: Fury Road - 20 Easter Eggs, In-Jokes & References

10. The Shot For Shot Redos

Mad Max Fury Road Gyro Captain
Warner Bros.

As Miller himself confirmed before the film's release, Fury Road is full of call-backs and echoes of the first three films, and that includes some shot-for-shot remakes of earlier moments in the franchise.

Not only do Toecutter's bulging eyes re-appear, but there is also the moment when Furiosa is forced to surrender all of her guns in the war rig, Max's drifting away at the finale and the striking visual similarities between Rictus Erectus and Lord Humungus.

There's also the moment when the Mothers and brides talk about satellites broadcasting shows, which feels like the way Morrow Morrow Land is discussed in Beyond Thunderdome.

Even more specifically, a headbutt is smash-edited the exact same way as in Road Warrior, plus Toecutter's creepy hiss is redone by one of the War Boys to greet Furiosa. Similarly, when Max climbs on top of The People Eater's rig and throws out the driver, it's the same method of despatch that he laid on the driver of the cow car in Beyond Thunderdome.
