Mad Max: Fury Road - 20 Easter Eggs, In-Jokes & References
17. The Spiky Cars
Inevitably, given Miller's penchant for guzzoline pornography and ridiculous war machine designs, the cars in Mad Max's dusty world are some of the best parts of the film. And inevitably there are some references in the designs too.
The spiky stripped down VW Bugs driven by the bottom-feeding, scrap merchant-like Buzzards are a reference to cult classic film, The Cars That Ate Paris. The comedy horror was made by fellow Australian director Peter Weir, who is credited alongside Miller as bringing Australian cinema to the mainstream.
Though the design has clearly been Miller-ised, the reference is clear.
