Mad Max Fury Road: 5 Awesome Moments And 5 That Sucked

3. Sucked: The Dialogue

Mad Max Fury Road Villain
Warner Bros.

The characters in this film don't do a whole lot of talking, and even when they do decide to have a little chat, you may wish they'd kept their traps shut. Again, you're not going to expect a lot of witty, thought provoking discourse in a Mad Max movie; but even taking that into account the dialogue is a big problem.

A lot of it comes so hard and fast in the midst of battle that it's almost incomprehensible, and then even when we can understand what's being said it's painfully on-the-nose. At one point Max asks Furiosa what she's looking for, and after a pause she responds earnestly with, "redemption." Really? Later on a character is injured, and the matter-of-fact way in which the others discuss what's wrong and the best way to try to aid them is borderline laughable.

It's not a deal breaker because enough is done in other areas to ensure we still care about what's happening and who it's happening to, but a bit more attention paid to the things these guys are yelling at each other and we might be looking at the masterpiece Fury Road is being hailed as.
