Mad Max: Fury Road Trailer Breakdown - 10 Things You Need To See

5. Here They Come Again

And then there's the bad guys. The original Mad Max films stood out both because of Mel Gibson's gloriously unhinged performance as the hero, but also because of the colourful characters George Miller had him going up against. Equally inspired by S&M gear and the bondage-influenced fashion of the contemporary punk scene (it was the late seventies okay), the ramshackle, purposefully off-putting style of the scavengers have become the de rigueur look for post-apocalyptic crazy people. Really, the antagonists in Fury Road look like they've stepped their game up considerably in the time they've been away. The previous teaser saw them carting about in huge groups, imprisoning Max and branding him with things. The brands make a return in this full-length trailer, alongside people wielding grenade launchers, playing drums, and a €œsuicide bomber€ who takes out a pursuing vehicle by leaping onto it wielding spears tipped with explosives. Fury Road is set before The Road Warrior, but it seems like the post-apocalypse is already in full swing. Main Force Patrol have clearly failed in their attempts to bring order to a chaotic world, and the scavengers have long since taken over, as evidenced by, well, all the shots of them blowing crap up, but also the voiceover where somebody wearily bemoans €œhere they come again€. They're like a familiar, murderous nuisance.
