Mad Max: Fury Road Trailer Breakdown - 10 Things You Need To See

4. The Cars

Mel Gibson is one star of the original Mad Max films who won't be making a return with Fury Road, but he's arguably not as important as the star who will be coming back. Max's Pursuit Special (actually a modified 1973 Ford Falcon XB GT) looks to be back in a starring role, making a couple of brief appearances in this new trailer. Cars are probably the main focus of the entire franchise so far, and it's pretty telling that this Fury Road teaser opens with €“ yes €“ the sound of various engines revving. Really, there are very few shots in this new trailer that aren't in constant motion, panning over a whole fleet of weird and wonderful automobiles that are either some sort of convoy, a large scale chase, or some combination of the two. The car-nage (sorry) that typified the first two Mad Max films look to be back with a vengeance in Fury Road, and Miller has done his best to bring some more insanely pimped out vehicles for the action this time. There's the Pursuit Special, sure, but it doesn't stop there. There's a VW Beetle covered in spikes €“ as a shout out to another genre flick by fellow Australian director Peter Weir's The Cars That Ate Paris €“ hot rods, monster trucks, all seemingly guarding an oil tanker of some description. Fingers crossed Hot Wheels have some sort of merchandising deal worked out.
