Madame Web Review: 1 Up & 9 Downs

8. The Villain SUCKS

Madame Web
Sony

Madame Web's villain, Ezekiel Sims, is an absolute bust. Beyond his rather dull, self-preserving motive and the silly methods he employs to try and save his own life, he's desperately lacking in personality beyond "intense looking rich dude who walks around barefoot in a suit."

And it's an embarrassing waste of the supremely talented Tahar Rahim, made even worse by the fact that a large percentage of his dialogue appears to have been re-dubbed in post-production.

In numerous scenes Sims' mouth is curiously obscured from view while he's speaking, and there are even a few moments where his spoken words are entirely out of sync with his mouth movements.

It only further compounds how much of a non-entity Sims is in the movie, and so we can only hope that Rahim at least got nicely paid for this evidently undemanding gig.
