Madame Web Review: 1 Up & 9 Downs

7. The Trailers Lied About The Spider-Women

Arguably the biggest sell of Madame Web's trailers was the presence of the Spider-Women, that audiences would eventually get to see Julia, Mattie, and Anya suit up and kick ass.

Except, the marketing is basically lying about this aspect of the movie, given that within the linear context of the story we never actually see the Spider-Women in action.

At the beginning and end of the film, we see brief flash-forwards of the Spider-Women fighting Sims and protecting their city, but within the timeline of the film itself, they never actually get that far.

As such, the fact that we only get 45-or-so seconds of the Spider-Women fighting makes Madame Web feel more like a feature-length teaser trailer for a sequel which, if the early box office tracking is to be believed, will probably never happen.

Simply put, if you were enticed to see this film on the basis of the Spider-Women, avoid this like the plague.
