Maleficent: 10 Other Disney Villains Who Deserve Their Own Movies

1. Ursula - The Little Mermaid

And at the number one spot, we have the sea witch Ursula. With an iconic look based on the drag performer Divine, the main antagonist of the Little Mermaid was imprinted on the minds of children everywhere when Disney kick started its renaissance back in the late 1980's. Aspects of Ursula's past have been explored in the animated TV series which acted as a prequel to the original Disney movie, but they did not do the character justice and left much still unknown. When Ursula first appears in The Little Mermaid, she reveals that she once lived in the royal palace in the underwater city of Atlantica, but she was exiled and forced to make her home outside of the city limits. The tragic relationship between Ursula and King Triton is almost Shakespearean in stature and could easily be played out on a larger scale in the form of an origin movie. Ursula was obviously trusted and respected before her exile, so it would be fascinating to explore the political machinations that led to the events of The Little Mermaid. The animated sequel also introduced Ursula's sister Morgana who was always jealous of Ursula as a child for her knowledge of magic and it would be interesting to explore this in the form of flashbacks. Furthermore, an Ursula movie could also explain how the sea witch transformed a number of merfolk into the writhing polyps that guard the entrance to her. An Ursula origin movie would be the most visually striking out of any other options on this list and the underwater setting would distinguish it as something completely different from the Maleficent movie due out soon. Make it happen Disney! Dream Casting: Vanessa Williams Some internet fans are keen to see Queen Latifah or Jennifer Coolidge play Ursula, but it's hard to imagine anyone better than Vanessa Williams in the role. Her parts on Ugly Betty and Desperate Housewives proved Williams can play the manipulate diva in her sleep and her Tony Award nominations are a testament to both her acting and singing ability. Imagine Williams singing Poor Unfortunate Souls with all the flamboyance and theatricality of the original animated version. As always, please let me know what you think of these choices in the comments section below!
