Maleficent: 10 Other Disney Villains Who Deserve Their Own Movies

10. Mother Gothel - Tangled

Enchantresses have had a long history with Disney, manipulating innocent young girls into doing their bidding and Mother Gothel is a prime example of this tradition. Tangled opens with Gothel kidnapping a young Rapunzel whose beautiful golden hair possesses magical healing powers that will keep the enchantress young forever. An origin movie based around Gothel's character could draw upon literally centuries of back story. No one knows how long Gothel has actually lived for, so there is plenty of scope for the screenwriters to imagine how she became an enchantress in the first place and what drove her in the quest to become eternally young. Maybe it was dying parents who struggled in their old age? Or could it have been a cruel lover who jilted Gothel for someone younger? Perhaps she even sold her soul to gain magical abilities and is now fighting to avoid paying the ultimate price? Ideally, Gothel's back story should tie in with Tangled, so it would be interesting to introduce a daughter into the script who is later taken from Gothel somehow before the events of Tangled take place. The loss of a child would provide further motivation for why exactly Gothel trapped Rapunzel in the tower for all those years. The best villains are always the ones whose motivations we can understand and this revelation would cast events in a whole new light. Dream Casting: Bernadette Peters With a critically acclaimed career that spans several decades, Bernadette Peters has both the talent and the voice to pull this part off. Dye her hair black and the look is perfect.
