Maleficent: 10 Other Disney Villains Who Deserve Their Own Movies
8. Yzma - The Emperor's New Groove
In an unusual move for Disney, The Emperor's New Groove chose to use a villainous mad scientist as the central antagonist, rather than the typical sorcerers the studio seems so fond of. Voiced by the inimitable Eartha Kitt not long before she died, Yzma is one of the most memorable Disney villains of the 2000's and so clearly deserves her own turn in the spotlight. Just look at that face! Early on in The Emperor's New Groove, it's revealed that Yzma wasn't always bad, kindly raising Kuzco as her own while his parents did little to help. It is only when he abruptly fires her that Yzma's power hungry persona comes to the fore. An origin movie based around the eccentric scientist could focus primarily on the humor that made the original Emperor's New Groove a success, exploring Kuzco's ridiculously spoiled childhood through the eyes of Yzma. Fans would also relish learning how Yzma and her ever lovable sidekick Kronk first met and the shape shifting animal hijinks could definitely keep things interesting. "Wrong lever!" Dream Casting: Maggie Smith The role of Yzma requires someone old who still possesses sass and can actually play the part without seeming frail or sad. Maggie Smith is an extremely talented actress and her recent role in TV's Downtown Abbey demonstrates that she has an acid tongue that has an unrivalled ferocity that could still be played for laughs given the right script. Also, Smith just isn't in enough films these days and fans everywhere would love to see her in a memorable lead role again.
