Maleficent: 10 Other Disney Villains Who Deserve Their Own Movies
7. Doctor Facilier - The Princess And The Frog
The Princess and the Frog took place in the distinct setting of New Orleans so of course, the scriptwriters had to create a character worthy of such a fascinating location. Enter the Shadow Man. Doctor Facilier is a witch doctor who plots to take over New Orleans with his dark magic and his 'friends on the other side'. With a striking look and a range of unusual abilities, Doctor Facilier has a lot of potential that could be explored further in his own origin movie. Many questions are raised about the Shadow Man in The Princess and the Frog which could be gradually revealed in an alternative origin story. How did Doctor Facilier meet his friends from the other side? Why is he so afraid of them? And how did his shadow become its own separate entity? I imagine he may have started out as a poor homeless boy growing up on the tough streets of New Orleans who fell in with the wrong crowd, learning dark magic to survive. An earlier script that didn't make it into production wrote Doctor Facilier as the son of Mama Odie, who left her path of righteousness to strike a deal with dark forces. In this same script, there would have been a final showdown between the two spell casters during the movies finale at Mardi Gras. An origin movie could make this alternative script a reality, casting relationships from the original film in a new light. Dream Casting: Eddie Murphy Comedian Eddie Murphy is the ultimate showman and could certainly bring the elaborate mannerisms of Doctor Facilier to life with no problem at all. The comedic actor also proved that he can sing surprisingly well in Dreamgirls, so he would definitely be able to perform a musical number of two if the script demanded it.
