Man Of Steel: 5 Reasons The DC Movie Universe Will Disappoint You

1. Joylessness

Man of Steel The main problem with DC movies so far is that they take themselves way too seriously. Man of Steel was an entirely dour affair that could have been improved by a joke here and there. The fact of the matter is, we live in dark and cynical times. I get that. However, that doesn't mean that our superhero movies have to be the same. After all, the 70s did provide the world with a little indie called Star Wars. In Man of Steel, Superman, one of the most optimistic super heroes ever, was reduced to being a passive, depressed dude. He is so much more than that. The weight of the world shouldn€™t constantly be tormenting our heroes. Look at Raimi's Spider-Man. Peter's inaction led to the death of his beloved uncle Ben. A trauma that informs every decision he makes. Heavy stuff for sure. Yet when he puts on the suit and web swings over his city, he does it with gusto and a sense of humour. The whole €œDark and Gritty€ thing has been done to death. How awesome would it be to have the DC equivalent of cool moments like €œPuny god€ in the new movies? Super heroes are fantasies and should be fun. Until DC realizes that fact, make mine Marvel.
