Man Of Steel: 5 Ways Zack Snyder (Hopefully) Has Grounded It In Reality
2. Internal Logic
There's a whole list of common sense questions about Clark Kent's life that we've never really had great answers for. How exactly is it that a man whose super sense allow him to be aware of any person in need of rescuing within miles, in one of the world's most populated cities, and the ability to do actually something about this, ever gets to take any time off. Nevermind just time off, how does he find time to build a career and simultaneously fawn over Lois Lane. If the man's morals are really as impeccable as we've been told, then not doing absolutely everything he can to protect the citizenry at all times should be the source of great guilt.
Everybody runs out of gas eventually, but Superman has the potential to be the Duracell bunny of dogooders. And yet, he's got a whole second life as mild mannered reporter Clark Kent. If any of us are to give a damn about Superman's fate, we should be told how he justifies his double life to himself. And through that, justify it to us. Maybe it's a necessary part of the whole, effective Superman, but take some time out to expound on that. Because, actually, we really want to know.
And while you're at it, how does Clark govern his abilities when he's interacting with the world as a normal guy. How is it so easy for him to go about the everyday business of shaking hands, swatting flies and punching the wall when the Jayhawks lose without leaving a path of destruction in his wake. This again is the sort of thing where just a little bit of exposition goes a long way. There has to be some sort of battle to occupy the world like a normal person, just physically. Add to that the greatest common sense question of them all. With very few tricky exceptions, Clark and Supes are never around at the same time. Most of us have trouble planning surprise parties without letting something slip, and we'd like to know how the most visible person on the planet manages to run a successful double life.
