Man Of Steel: 9 Things We Want From The New Superman Film

7. A Supportive (But Prominent) Cast

Man-of-Steel-Cast Much like Superman: The Movie, Zack Snyder and Chris Nolan took a page out of the Richard Donner playbook when it came to finding a great supporting cast to place around Henry Cavill. Despite having a couple starring roles, his popularity is just not at the same level of his fellow Man of Steel cast members and that's a good thing. Choosing to fill a supporting cast with capable and recognizable actors accomplishes a few things. It brings instant validity to the cast and takes pressure of the leading role but at the same time it allows the audience to focus more intently on his performance. We already know the supporting cast will perform at a high level which gives someone like Henry Cavill room to grow as an actor right before the worldwide audience's eyes. With that being said, we still need to see great performances from the supporting cast. The best way this can be accomplished is letting those actors embody and hopefully transform into the roles they were chosen to play. From what I have seen and know about the actors in these roles, I can already see some similarities. Laurence Fishburne taking on the role of Perry White has had several roles that has placed him in positions of authority. From Morpheus in The Matrix to the Director of IMF in Mission Impossible 3, he has what it takes to play a role like the Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Planet. The same can be said for Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Russell Crowe, Amy Adams, and Michael Shannon; all of whom have been, at the very least, nominated for Academy Awards in an acting roles. The performances in this film will be delivered, there's no doubt about that.
