5. Lois Lane & Clark Kent
Is there a greater love story in the pantheon of comic books? DC Comics has recently tried to break the mold by breaking the inseparable pair up but it simply hasn't worked and I doubt it will last for much longer. Obviously there are two different aspects to this relationship which makes it twice as enjoyable for the audience to experience. However, it is my hope that the filmmakers decide to narrow it to one. I want Lois Lane to know Clark Kent is Superman by the end of the film. While the constant, often slapstick attempts at humor generated by Clark trying to keep his identity a secret from Lois can be funny at times, I think it really has run its course. I don't believe it's something that needs to be dragged out for several films. Lois Lane is, after all, supposed to be one of the best investigative reporters on the planet. She has up close and personal time with Superman. She works with Clark Kent on a daily basis at the Daily Planet. Do you really think a pair of glasses is enough to keep an identity secret from someone like her? Let's give the woman some credit and genuine intelligence. If John Blake can figure out that Bruce Wayne is Batman because of a shared emotional connection from being an orphan, than a pair of glasses shouldn't slow Lois Lane down one bit. Amy Adams is a smart, beautiful, and more than capable actress and she's bringing all of those qualities and a plethora of experience to the role of Lois Lane. Outside of Ma and Pa Kent she is the one human being on the planet who is closest to Clark Kent and Superman and we must see that in this film. The most recent cinematic interpretation (Superman Returns) of Lois Lane was a huge disappointment for me. There was no chemistry between Clark and Lois and not much between Lois and Superman either. It was basically what DC Comics is trying to do now in the New 52 and like I said before, it just didn't work. Do I think they should be madly in love by the time the credits role? No. I would love to see their relationship develop over time. But as I said before, I want any relationship in the future built on the foundation that the world's best investigative reporter can figure out the identity of the world's greatest superhero. Anything less will be a disappointment, at least for me.
