Marvel: 15 Biggest MCU Rumours You Need To Know (Jan 15th)
6. Clea Might Appear In Doctor Strange 2 (And So Might Nightmare)
Though his love was directed at Christine Palmer in the first film, Doc Strange typically has a more traditional love interest in the comics - Clea, daughter of the ruler of the Dark Dimension - and it seems she might be appearing in the inevitable sequel.
According to writer Jon Spaihts Clea wasn't included in the first instalment for a very specific reason, and he went on to outline how he'd see her coming in:
"She’s a tricky character to interpret because her uncle is a kind of fire-headed omnipotent god and she’s kind of a hot babe who studies magic. That’s a tricky relationship to bring out of a comic book and on to a movie screen. But she’s a really compelling character as a foil, a love interest, a colleague of Doctor Strange’s, and she always carries with her that width of mystery as to whether she is human, and how human, and what that means for his relationship to her. So we might find a way to introduce her to the story."
He also confirmed that he thought Nightmare might make a good villain for the sequel:
"[Nightmare is] one of the big ones, yes, absolutely! There’s sort of a zombie apocalypse Shuma-Gorath elder god scenario. There’s a kind of unreliable reality Nightmare movie that could be made. There’s a few great things, and of course Mordo is out there, as embodied by the extraordinary Chiwetel [Ejiofor]. He can come back and bring a world of hurt at any time."
Inevitably, that means the Internet now accepts both characters are definitely incoming...
Rating: 7/10
If the writer is talking about them, you'd have to suggest they're on his and the rest of the team's minds. Adding Clea makes sense for Scott Derrickson, as it means more opportunity to go to the Dark Dimension (and perhaps to write a good female character), while Nightmare would be a hell of a villain in terms of the visuals he would require.
It'd all be very exciting if it comes off anyway.
