Marvel: 15 Biggest MCU Rumours You Need To Know (Jan 15th)
12. Thor Ragnarok Is A Straight Comedy?!
Is Thor: Ragnarok going to seek to cleanse the palates of MCU fans after The Dark World's failures by going for a different genre entirely? Perhaps... Or at least, that's according to some fans reading a little too much into what Chris Hemsworth said to MTV on the red carpet of this year's Golden Globes when he talked about what director Taika Waititi was bringing to the sequel:
"It was one of the best experiences I've had, he's incredible. If you've seen any of his films, they give you an indication of the tone of what this is going to be, which is very different to what we've seen before."
An indication of what Ragnarok is going to be from Eagle Vs Shark, Boy, What We Do In The Shadows and Hunt For The Wilderpeople? Does that mean we're going to get an outright comedy?
Rating: 4/10
It might be lighter in tone than The Dark World, but there's no way we're going to see anything in Waititi's usual style. This is not going to be a mockumentary from the front-lines of Civil War, or a tender-hearted tale of self-discovery... It has a Norse alien God fighting a giant green monster while Hela, ruler of the land of the dead takes over their Viking-like planet. This does not correlate.
So expect comedy, but don't expect this to be a full-on Waititi project: he will be forced to work to the MCU brief the same way the Russos didn't make The Winter Soldier and Civil War in the style of You, Me & Dupree...
