After everything the MCU has accomplished, it's no surprise that Phase 4 will really be swinging for the fences in terms of delivering projects unlike any that have come before, chief among them being The Eternals, which will be helmed Chloé Zhao and could see a release late next year or sometime in 2021.

In comic history, the Eternals - who initially made their debut in the '70s - were a race of nearly-immortal beings created by the Celestials, who are in perpetual conflict with their counterparts the Deviants. To dive into their history would take quite a while, but the fact that Marvel is turning their milennia-spanning cosmic tale into one of the MCU's next tentpoles shows confidence in how everyone involved isn't going to be resting on their laurels following Endgame in order to expand the scope of the franchise in all new ways.

It's been confirmed that the film will focus on the love story between two Eternals, Sersi and Ikaris, the former of which will be portrayed by Angelina Jolie, and there's a good chance a portion of the film could serve as an origin tale for Thanos, something that Josh Brolin has said he'd be up for. And while we'll learn more about it as the film pushes closer to production, its mere existence proves that Phase 4 will be taking even bigger, more exciting risks.
