Marvel Cinematic Universe: Definitive Guide To Easter Eggs, In-Jokes And Foreshadowing

Guardians Of The Galaxy

That people were uncertain about Guardians Of The Galaxy is now a laughable concept. The highest grossing superhero movie of 2014, ahead of Captain America, X-Men and even Spider-Man, the likes of Star-Lord and Groot are now as well known as their A-List counterparts. The film spends a lot of its time introducing the Cosmic arm of the Marvel Universe to the screen; after the pre-studio logo prologue, Earth is but a distant memory, with the Kree and the Nova Corp. pushing the story forward. As such, there's little that feels directly applicable to The Avengers, but there's seeds sown here that will prove essential by the time we get to Avengers: Infinity War in 2018. But not just Avengers In Space or Star Wars With Superheroes, the film's a knowing, subversive joy. As such, there's a fair share of meta jokes, both to the film's perceived nature as a gamble and the silliness of the concept, culminating in the most blatant trolling of audiences with a post-credits scene since, well, Iron Man 3.
